Big C Vietnam and the Phong Phu Textile Company officially opened a hypermarket in Hue city in July with total investment capital of VND300 billion ($16.7 million) and covering 20,200 square metres on the first five floors of the twin tower Phong Phu Plaza for parking, retail stores, a supermarket, offices for lease, food counters, a bookstore and a children’s playground.

“Hue has stable economic growth, is the largest cultural-tourism centre in the central region and has a crowded population and great potential in the distribution sector,” said Mr Pascal Billaud, General Director of Big C Vietnam. “We are here to serve the increasing demand of consumers in Thua Thien Hue and other neighbouring cities and provinces.” The owner of Big C Vietnam is European retailer Casino, under the French group Bourbon, and was the first foreign retailer to be licensed in Vietnam. After some eleven years it now has nine supermarkets and hypermarkets nationwide, with four in Ho Chi Minh City, one each in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, and Dong Nai province, and now one in Hue. VET
