The Unilever Vietnam Fund has provided 463.9 million VND (nearly 26,000 USD) to carry out a project to improve community health in four communes in the northern province of Ha Nam.

The project, focusing on personal and environmental hygiene, is being carried out in Nguyen Ly and Hoa Hau communes in Ly Nhan district and Nguyen Uy commune and Que town in Kim Bang district from August to December this year. The project will assist in the construction and upgrade of toilets at households and in public areas to raise the number of people using clean water and toilets, as well as provide information on personal and environmental hygiene, particularly the habit of washing hands with soap through various direct activities and the media. In 2008, the Fund provided 303.3 million VND (almost 17,000 USD) to carry out a similar project in Binh Nghia and Bo De commune in Binh Luc district, and Hoa Hau and Nguyen Ly communes in Ly Nhan district. The project provided 22,000 bars of soap to local households, helped build 8 clean water projects, and upgraded 2 public and 24 household hygienic toilets. As a result, the number of households with access to safe water, as well as those with toilets, increased 5 percent./. Source: vietnamplus.vn
